Programs for people with HIV and AIDS

 

COVERAGE BASED ON DISABILITY - If your conditions is such that you are unable to work, you may be eligible for coverage based on your disabiltiy. Click here to review the part of this discussion that talks about benefits for disabled persons.

MASSHEALTH FAMILY ASSISTANCE - even if you are not disabled as a result of your AIDS or HIV infection, you may still be able to receive MassHealth under a special program specifically designed to help HIV positive individuals. To qualify, you must be

• HIV positive
• under 65 years old
• not eligible for regular MassHealth or Commonhealth based on disability
• have income below 133% of the federal poverty level

You can get immediate coverage if you can show that your income is within the program limits and you will have 60 days to prove that you are HIV positive.

If you have access to private insurance, this program can pay all or part of the costs of your premiums.
